Meet-in-the-making. Reframed.
This one-of-a-kind project was born during the national lockdown of 2020, in a bid to keep alive the essential activities of artmaking, connecting and creative collaboration.
We asked some of our favourite artist collaborators to share a line drawing with the 50ty/50ty community, in service of one of our grandest collaborations yet: connecting the spaces between us during a time of unusual isolation, inactivity and uncertainty.
As such, these artworks began life as downloadable, home-printable unlimited editions – available for fans and followers to colour in. But they also invited art lovers to do much more than that. Created by acclaimed, professional creatives, each artwork encouraged connection with the artist’s own practice – inviting colourers to engage with the marks that followed the artist’s creative, physical gestures, participating in a kind of visual conversation.
From lockdown download to brand new product line
Lockdown then started to lift (sort of), people got busy again and Meet-in-the-making got a new face. It was partly inspired by the way many of our followers were engaging with the downloads – tacking up these untainted, monotone beauties as inspiration in their home offices. It made sense! These are, after all, drawings and designs by some of our best talents.
So we decided to formalise this user-generated idea and refine it in the studio. We selected the most popular downloads and collaborated with the artists to transform their ideas and designs further – translating these sketchbook studies into finished artworks: one-colour, hand-pulled, screen print editions of 25. Printed 300 x 420mm on archival paper, copyrighted and chopped with the 50ty50ty signature stamp.
