Let’s meet. In the making.
With lockdown extended, we’re really pleased that so many of our artist collaborators have jumped on board the Meet-in-the-making project. Their contributions have been top-notch and plentiful, which means that we’re able to release new downloads every week for your colouring pleasure.
It also means that we’ve managed to raise R3900 so far for the Peninsula School Feeding Association, which is no small feat during these economically tough times. To date, your purchases have made it possible for 63 children to receive meals every day for a month.
With the lockdown limiting people to whatever drawing instruments they have at hand – one single HB pencil, a pack of neon highlighters, Adobe’s digital manipulation tools – we’ve been treated to an Instagram feed of kaleidoscopic ingenuity. (And reminded of how limits can stimulate creativity.)
We’ve also enjoyed seeing the limits pushed, with kids making their inimitable marks across lines and pages and creative professionals offering fascinating interpretations of other artists’ works. One customer even managed to print her download on canvas so that she could paint between the lines.
The latest additions to the Meet-in-the-making portfolio are by Richard Myburgh, Colijn Strydom and Maaike Bakker, while Nina Torr remains a download favourite. So get yours, get colouring, get sharing at #meetinthemaking. And just because, here are some ideas to help you along:
1.Gift a download
You’re probably missing a few birthdays and celebrations at the moment. But a Meet-in-the-making download makes a meaningful, budget-friendly, socially distant, 100% lockdown-legal gift. And it’s a gift that keeps on giving. Which brings us to the next idea.
2.Download once, print again and again
For those of you who are worried about messing up the master strokes of your favourite artists, rest assured: If you don’t like what you did the first time, print another and start again (perhaps using recycled paper). Or simply hang it up on your wall as is, sans colour – for some welcome indoor inspiration.
3.Gift a voucher
Speaking of gifts, remember that we offer gift vouchers for all of our screen prints. This removes the pressure of choosing the perfect piece for your loved one, and if they make a purchase during the lockdown period, they could qualify for a FLASH DISCOUNT! Keep an eye out for our ONE DAY ONLY discount codes on our Instagram feed. (Artworks will be shipped once restrictions are lifted.)
Meet-in-the-making | More about the project
This one-of-a-kind project was born during the national lockdown of 2020, in a bid to keep alive the essential activities of artmaking, connecting and creative collaboration.
We asked some of our favourite artist collaborators to share a line drawing with the 50ty/50ty community. Although copyrighted, these unlimited editions are available to download, print, colour, share, frame; in service of one of our grandest collaborations yet: connecting the spaces between us during a time of unusual isolation, inactivity and uncertainty.
Unlike your run-of-the-mill colouring books, these considered drawings have been created by acclaimed, professional creatives. Each artwork invites you to connect with the artist’s own practice – to enter their world by engaging with the marks that followed their creative, physical gestures, adding your own strokes and colour in a kind of visual conversation.
The first download is free to newsletter subscribers. After that, downloads will be just R115 each, with 50% of proceeds going to the Peninsula School Feeding Association. One download will feed one child for a month.
All we ask is that you share your coloured-in artwork on Instagram, tag @50ty50typrints and use the hashtag #meetinthemaking to contribute to an ongoing catalogue. One day, when all this is over, we will publish the collection.
